Similan Thai Restaurant in Solana Beach offers a straightforward, no-frills approach to Thai dining that appeals to both locals and visitors seeking authentic flavors without pretense. Located on Lomas Santa Fe Drive, this full-service restaurant brings a relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere, balancing casual weekday lunches with accommodating evening gatherings.

The space feels unassuming and functional, more focused on the food than flashy decor, making it a practical spot for groups and solo diners alike. It’s clear this is a place where the food takes center stage, backed by service that’s efficient if occasionally a little reserved. Visitors can expect staff who know the menu well and remain steady under busy conditions, though the vibe isn’t overly warm or chatty.

Similan leans into Thai classics with some standout house specialties. The Pad See Ew and Red Curry regularly draw praise for their balanced flavors and generous portions, accommodating those looking for both spice and comfort in their meals. Dishes like Cashew Nuts Shrimp and Sliced Beef Filet showcase the kitchen’s care with ingredients and traditional seasoning, while offerings such as Banana Delight and Salted Caramel Crunch Cake provide satisfying finishes that aren’t overly sweet.

Similan is particularly good for larger parties; one review noted a birthday dinner for 18 was managed smoothly, reflecting a capacity for group dining without cutting corners on quality or attention. Lunch visits on weekday afternoons are quieter and might offer a chance at more attentive service, while evenings can feel brisk with the steady flow of regulars and families.

For drink options, the pairing of a British IPA or a glass of Malbec adds a touch of variety, and traditional refreshments like Thai Iced Tea and a flavorful Michelada complement the meal well. The atmosphere suits those who prioritize authentic tastes in a straightforward setting over trendiness, which fits well within Solana Beach’s diverse dining landscape.

In sum, Similan Thai Restaurant appeals to diners who want honest, well-executed Thai food with enough space for gatherings and a menu that respects tradition without unnecessary embellishment. It’s a practical choice for anyone craving solid Thai classics in a calm environment where food portion sizes and flavors consistently satisfy.

We organized birthday dinner for 18 people with the manager/owner "O". He and his staff helped make it a very enjoyable occasion for all of us. They accommodated all our requests and the food was amazing. We eat a lot of Thai food around town and their food was authentic and absolutely delicious. The portions we generous and service excellent. Honestly, I did not want to write this review as this gem of a restaurant is too good to share as we won't get a reservation in the future. Thank you "O" for a wonderful time.

Best Thai food in Solana Beach, and some of the best Thai food I've ever had. We've had chicken satay, green curry, pad thai, pad see ew, and probably other dishes here I can't remember. I wouldn't call the service friendly, but the usual hostess/waitress is adequate. I'm fine with this. However, we arrived around 2 pm on a Friday afternoon and had a terrible different waitress who seemed stressed and was unwelcoming. I understand they close at 3 pm, but there were maybe only 4 other parties dining in who were almost done. She didn't bring us water for a while, and seemed annoyed by us letting our toddler walk around supervised. The customers at the two tables next to us were very friendly and didn't mind his presence, but she made us seem like an inconvenience.

A solid Thai spot with good portions and well-made dishes. Nothing mind-blowing but everything hit the spot. Panang Curry: Get Definitely the best thing we had. Rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. The chicken was tender and the sauce went great with rice. Glass Noodles with Chicken: Maybe? Nice texture and a light, savory flavor. It was enjoyable, but I usually prefer pad see ew or something a little heartier. Just a personal preference. Papaya Salad: Maybe This one came out very spicy. That was expected, but the balance was off for me. Not enough sweetness or tang to round it out. Still refreshing though. The service was friendly and the place felt clean and relaxed. Pricing was fair for the portions and overall quality. Food: 7/10 Service: 6/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Value: 7/10

We ordered half-sweet pad see ew and green curry. Both taste pretty good. Although the half sweet was still quite sweet to us, but generally still tasted good

We dined in there for a party of three and the food was outstanding. The portion is very generous as you can see in the pictures and the taste is great for all dishes we ordered. Similan Thai restaurant may not be the most authentic Thai restaurant, but it has a lot to offer! I can say it is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area
